But there is one thought I would add to the debate over the issue and the coverage of the issue. The Republicans flat out play a different game. And, as a Democrat who has worked on two Presidential Campaigns, here’s why it matters.
This post originally appeared at Smoking Politics.
Politico has revealed allegations that Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain, the front-runner in the Republican Presidential primaries, was accused of sexual harassment in the late 90s and that his employer, the National Restaurant Association, settled the charges with a cash payout. His explanation is that he [...]
Have you heard about Zombie ACORN? The conservative media is a-twitter with ACORN sightings over a year and a half after the right wing succeeded in killing off the voter-registering, community organizing group. Behind the 99% in the Occupy movement is ACORN, did you hear? They just won’t die.
It’s ironic. The [...]
Please forward this to friends, relatives, “centrists” and conservatives you know. You may have heard about the “Occupy” protests that are occurring in cities around the country. They aren’t what you are hearing. Please come to one and see for yourself. If you are young, old, white, black, brown, poor, rich, left, right, centrist, even [...]
These are amazing images. And sad this is happening here.
With their “We are the 99%” chant, Occupy Wall Street protesters call for and end to the corporate corruption of democracy, to America’s two-tiered system of justice, and to the rigged economics that concentrates the nation’s wealth in the hands of the top 1%. By cheating, says Rolling Stone contributing editor Matt Taibbi, who
The Republicans are obstructing the government from operating. Judges, appointees, NLRB members, etc. are blocked with the purpose of keeping government from doing its job. This is taking a terrible toll on We, the People. The President has the power to do something about it, and it is time for him to use that power.
[...]
The corporate/conservative plan for decades has been to turn people against government and democracy. Because when people stop accepting the idea of We, the People making decisions, guess who gets to make the decisions instead? Last month a retiring GOP staffer explained how it works, this month a new poll show how well it works.
[...]
When President Obama re-affirmed his commitment to have all the troops out of Iraq by the end of 2011, my thoughts went to two different groups of veterans and one remarkable project I was recently introduced to.
The power of the Occupy movement will not be seen now; just as the power of the ON MAY 12th wasn’t seen on May 13th. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, according to Lao Tzu. The steps are starting to add up. The journey has begun. Hold on, it could get a little crazy out there.
We had to repost this gem from hippie One Pissed Off Liberal at Daily Kos:
#OWS: Let Me Tell You Wall Street
Asshats a Little Something About

One of the attack memes for right wingers and know nothings is that the Occupy Wall Street movement is merely [...]
If we want to bring jobs and wealth back to the United States for the 99% of us who have been under extreme pressure we’re going to have to do something about trade. The huge trade imbalances — especially with China — are sucking our jobs and factories and companies and industries and money out [...]
Richard Sandomir offers us a truly remarkable bit of weaselly reporting — he really takes contrived “balance” to brave new heights with this one…
ESPN said Thursday that it was its decision to end a long association with Williams, but he disputed that on his Web site: “After [...]
We were sitting in a Waffle House in Staunton, Virginia discussing the state of the nation over breakfast. I had just read an Ed Kilgore column in Salon about the nationwide Republican war on voting rights, and the conservative debate over whether voting is even a right or not.
As I am [...]
Last week big oil/big coal sent a not-subtle message to the country’s investment community: if you back companies or technologies that compete with us we will crush you. Our media/political machine will accuse you of every crime in the book. Your picture will be plastered on the front page of every newspaper in the country [...]
Occupy Wall Street Interview with Chris Hedges
Writer and activist Chris Hedges has some powerful things to say about the forces and conditions that have led to the peaceful and many-days-long demonstration currently taking place in New York: Occupy Wall Street (peaceful on the part of protesters, that is; utterly and [...]
One side says, “Never mind the deal we just agreed to, cut this or we’ll shut down the government” and the other side says, “This isn’t fair, and it hurts people. We can’t keep agreeing to pay these ransoms, this has to stop!” Is this “both sides squabbling?” Is this “Congress can’t get its act [...]
Oil-backed Republicans are doing everything they can to turn the public against … alternatives to oil. Today a Republican Congressional committee held a hearing, named the hearing “How Obama’s Green Energy Agenda is Killing Jobs,” and released a “report” with the same name. The report calls the push for green-energy jobs “a propaganda tool designed [...]
Decency and good intent won’t defeat the Medusa that the Republican and Conservative movement has become. Strength, courage, a shot of evil and fanatical commitment has a chance. You fight your opponent on their terms, not yours.
Otherwise as powerful and wonderful as CGI is, the beauty and the inspiration that is there will remain the province only of a select few and never be re-introduced to the nation.
Yesterday, on Facebook, one of my friends posted a graphic of the president and this recent quote, which is making the rounds:
I reject the idea that asking a hedge fund manager to pay the same tax rate as a plumber or a teacher is class warfare…
And today, over at the Great [...]
