In 2009, Don Young (R-AK) signed a seditious letter drafted by a rightwing terrorist recently arrested for plotting to kill state troopers and at least one judge. The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has launched a petition calling on Young to re-affirm his oath of allegiance to the U.S. Constitution. Cross-posted from Merge Left.
One reason that Wisconsin erupted the way that it did is a long-standing disconnect between the power of the national discourse about failing schools–which people tend to buy into in the abstract–and the reality of the fact that most people feel that the schools their children go to are doing a pretty good job. 25 years of polling backs this up. The firing of State Department Spokesperson P.J. Crowley for speaking honestly about the barbaric treatment of accused WikiLeaker Private Bradley Manning shows once again that truth is not an option in the Obama Administration. But there’s a deeper sense in why and how this is so, going to the very roots of the creeping authoritarianism of the Obama Administration & why progressives have such a hard time recognizing and coming to terms with it. Congressman Don Young, has publicly endorsed a seditious documents drafted and promoted by the leader of a militia group just indicted for conspiracy to murder at least one judge and any number of state troopers in Alaska. Limitations of vision that can most readily be grasped when looking at rightwing militia groups, for example, also apply to the relatively much more sophisticated structures of traditional liberal theory. A look at a couple of recent posts this week serves to illustrate the point.

In Walker’s grand plan, union-busting is joined with crony capitalism in the fire-sale of state assets and the moving of total conrol over health-care spending into the executive branch, and away from the legislature. It’s a 3-part plan for a new form of feudalism.
Kerry was the most liberal senator in 2004, Obama in 2008, and this year it’s Harry Reid in the wild and whacky world of the National Journal, where facts NEVER get in the way of a good rightwing-friendly narrative.
"The world is a rigged game"
Matt Taibbi at Rolling Stone: “Word has leaked out that the London-based firm ICAP, the world’s largest broker of interest-rate swaps, is being investigated by American authorities for behavior that sounds eerily reminiscent of the Libor mess. Regulators are looking into whether or not a small group of brokers at ICAP may have worked with up to 15 of the world’s largest banks to manipulate ISDAfix, a benchmark number used around the world to calculate the prices of interest-rate swaps.”
On winning and values
So, right-wingers, you want a society where families are stable, where everybody looks like you and shares your Christian faith, and where the government pretty much stays out of your business? It’s not in some Randian fantasy, it’s right here in the USA.
