FactCheck,org: “Social Security has passed a tipping point.”

Me: FactCheck.org has passed a tipping point.

Last week, Rachel Maddow did quite a takedown on PolitiFact, but this goes way beyond that.

However, I’m afraid you’re too soft on them. Their “analysis” is utterly and totally false. Ken, you say:

The suggestion that $37 billion out of a $1.3 trillion dollar deficit is somehow a cause of the deficit is akin to saying that the fact that I had to file for bankruptcy last year was caused by that extra cheeseburger I bought at McDonald’s last year.

But it’s more like saying your bankruptcy was caused by that extra cheeseburger you bought on an expense account at McDonald’s last year, since SS’s shortfall was paid for out of its trust fund, and cannot contribute to the deficit as a matter of law.

What I’m about to say makes me feel way more like a typo nazi than the kindly old freak lady I profess to be, but nevertheless I cannot NOT point out that I think you’ve got a typo in your header for this post.

Right now it reads:

Surely “In” should be “It” ?
