Excellent article, with implications beyond federal policy. Democratic state lawmakers would do well do take this message to heart.

Thanks David. I corrected the date (transposed numbers). Regarding your question about the real consequences of the "WI thing", I just don't know. Why I inserted the word "maybe" in the last sentence before publishing. What can be done, I think, is to continue to confront Dem leadership with the truth. Bring out their specious arguments into the open light and make them defend their beliefs. We have to be prepared to do it again, and again, and again.

Jeff-

Great to see you resurface.

The point you make at the end reminds me of something I've been wondering about since the WI thing started. Can this moment (movement) be about a challenge to the Washington Consensus / the Predator State, or will it simply be channeled towards supporting Democrats who will promise not to engage in an open assault on unions, not to cut government spending quite so much, etc.? I suspect either option is possible, so the real question is what can be done to encourage it in the right direction?

(PS - I think you said "1969" when you meant a year during Clinton's presidency).
